Women’s Judo

Judo is far from being an exclusively male preserve. Indeed some of Great Britain’s biggest international and Olympic successes in recent years have been achieved by women. Typically there are around a dozen women training regularly with Oxford Judo. Women join in all training and practice sessions and the more experienced are quite able to hold their own against the men in free practice.

We have several female coaches in Oxford Judo Club, led by Carol Doherty, BJC 4th Dan and World Masters Silver Medallist. Along with regular and beginners coaching, she also coaches sessions aimed particularly at Women’s Judo.

Oxford Judo has always had a very strong Women’s team. Our women have won the Varsity match against Cambridge consistently for several years, and they regularly get a collection of medals at the British University Championships. Members of the Women’s squad have also competed with great success at several national and international level competitions, see our recent updates.
