A number of players have been training hard over the summer ready for the next competitive judo season. The graduates and city club players that remain in Oxford over the holidays have continued to train at the Iffley road sports centre as well as regular training at High Wycombe judo centre. In addition to this a number of players have attended training camps, with Max Denning attending the Linguafit Camp in Dublin, Ireland for a week. The Linguafit camp had a number of olympians present on the coaching team including, Mark Huizinga, Anatoly Laryukov, Ilias Iliadis and Euan Burton.
Henry Whinney, Carina Venter and Max also additionally attended sessions at the BJPI (british judo performance institute) in Dartford over the holiday.
Importantly Oxford Judo held one of its first weekend camps in Wales, a number of players attended including Carina who is continuing with her paralympic preperations, aspiring to represent South Africa at 2012. We thank Chris and Carol Doherty for coaching at the camp as well as a large thank you to our kind hosts.
Furthermore Ifor Chapel, Rebecca Bayliss and Henry have all regularly been attending Welsh squad sessions.
Attending the East of England championships recently were 2 Oxford Brookes players (Matt Edmans and Nick Baker) as well as Henry and Max representing Oxford University. Everyone fought well and Max came away with a Bronze. Oxford Judo will now be turning its sights to preparing for the Heart of England Championships as well as the welsh championships in September.
