OXFORD JUDO TRIUMPHS ONCE AGAIN AT BUCS

Congratulations once again to Oxford University Judo Club for achieving what is undoubtedly its best performance ever in the men’s individual National University and College Championships held in Sheffield on 23rd and 24th February while also bringing home, for the second year running, the silver medal in the team competition.

In the men’s individual dan grade championships on the Saturday, our gold medallists were Siamek Redhai (Under 66kg), Benjamin Skretting (Under 81kg) and OUJC President Max Denning (Under 90kg) while OUJC Treasurer David Abed won silver in the Over 100kg category. Well done all.

On Sunday Siamak, Ben, Max and David were joined by Makoto Sugaano to form the the Oxford Team and confirmed the current strength of Oxford men’s judo by reaching the final, for the second year running,  only to be beaten by a strong Anglia Ruskin University team.  Unfortunately David Abed was injured in the process. We wish him a speedy recovery.  But two silvers and a bronze on the last three years isn’t too bad going.

Unfortunately Oxford’s former gold and bronze medallist Becky Bayliss was unable to compete in the women’s competition this year through injury and no other Oxford woman reached the  podium this year.

This was an outstanding result and brought a smile to the faces of both Chris and Max.
